A ghost story is about a little girl called Victoria Harcourt who is at a family wedding which she thinks is tediously boring as all the others she has been to. When the other children decide to play hide and seek Victoria is left without a partner. She meets a little girl who is soaking wet called Margaret and they decide to be partners and they hide in the blanket chest in the master bedroom. Emily; Victoria's cousin who she hates forgets to find her and sits in the room she is hiding in and tells a ghost story. Victoria plans to jump out and scare her and all the others listening to the story in which a girl is smothered and put in a blanket chest then dumped in a lake. Victoria jumps out of the chest and scares the girls but then she starts screaming and when her voice ran out just lay on the bed staring at the empty blanket chest.
My favourite character is Victoria because she shares my views on weddings that most of them are boring and that she was willing to play with Margaret. I also liked her because she is cunning as her plan to scare the other girls was really mischievous.
I liked this story because the setting was realistic because that is what most children would do at a wedding and I liked the fact that it suddenly started raining as it made the circumstances seem more realistic. I also liked it because the fact that everyone was hanging on Emily's every word made me understand why Victoria disliked her so much.
I would recommend this book to all secondary school students as it is quite complicated and is enjoyable for me and my parents as I lent the book to my mother and her favourite story was A ghost story because of the style of writing. My favourite part was when Victoria jumped out at Emily and the other children.
